Don is a Trammell Crow Regents' Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences, a member of the Computer Engineering Research Center of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Austin and a member of the Texas Institute for Computational Applied Mathematics. He has also served as Director of the Advanced Technology Division of the Applied Research Laboratory at UT. He obtained a BA in Mathematics and Social Sciences at Dartmouth College in 1973, and an MS and PhD in Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas in 1977 and 1980, respectively. His research interests include Computer Aided Design, Computer Architecture, Computer Graphics, Database Systems and Fault-Tolerant Computing. He has recently returned to UT from a two year leave of absence in industry, where he served as as Chief Science Officer and Vice President of Research and Development of Matrix NetSytems, Inc of Austin, TX, a local startup in the area of Internet performance measurement. He previously co-founded and served as Chief Technology Officer of Infovision, Inc., an Austin startup that developed mechanical computer-aided design systems.
